Mojacar is our historical local pueblo, whitewashed and set up high on a hill, with its’ artisan shops, bars and restaurants. It can be seen from Utopian Retreats and is only a short drive away. From the Plaza Neuva you have far reaching views across the plains and mountains of Andalucia for fifty miles and can spend balmy nights enjoying live entertainment and good food.
A short drive along the Mojacar coast you soon come to the Cabo de Gata which is our stunning National Park with its’ quiet beaches, clear waters, hidden villages, breathtaking landscapes and cliffs. Try visiting the small fishing village of Agua Amarga with it’s excellent beach restaurants and shops, Monsul Beach in the town of San Jose or take a walk to one of the many wonderful beaches such as Playa de los Muertos.
Another great day out for all the family is Mini Hollywood which was the setting for some of the spaghetti westerns such as ‘The Good, The Bad and the Ugly’ or ‘For a Few Dollars More’ to name but a few. With a zoo and a Wild West show there’s plenty to keep the children occupied. You can even dress up in authentic costumes as cowboys and Indians and have your family portraits taken.
The Alhambra in Granada can be reached within a couple of hours and is a cultural day trip that is worth doing, whose origins date back to 889AD. It was then rebuilt in the 11th century and converted into a palace in 1333. Granada is a vibrant bustling city with great shops and restaurants and like the Alhambra, is fascinating and atmospheric. Be sure to ask us to book your tickets for the Alhambra in advance as it does get fully booked in season.
You can also visit the magnificent Caves of Sorbas which are located in a protected natural area. Here you can view the caves in their natural state, unlit with no man-made corridors. Whether you are a keen caver or a beginner there are various levels of caving to suit everyone.
Other things to do include learning to scuba dive, horse riding, boat trips, water park, go-karting, golf, crazy golf, tennis, hiking, mountain biking, paint balling and wake boarding.
However, most of our guests genuinely prefer to stay at the retreat to rest, play and be pampered or take an occasional trip to the beach and local chiringuitos.
